Crowned with Purpose: Leilani S. Lee Named Miss Indian Junior Rodeo Association Queen 2026

Ya’át’ééh Shik’éí dóó Shidine’é—Greetings Relatives and Friends.

With grace, cultural pride, and a heart rooted in service, Leilani S. Lee has been crowned Miss Indian Junior Rodeo Association Queen 2026, stepping into a role that reflects not only personal achievement, but the strength of heritage, family, and community.

Introducing herself in the Diné tradition, Leilani shares, “Shí éí Leilani Lee yinishyé.” She is Todích’íi’nii (Bitter Water Clan), born for Oozeí Táchii’nii (Red Running Into Water, of Hopi descent). Her maternal grandfathers are Kinlichiinii (Red House Clan), and her paternal grandfathers are Nooda’i Dine’é (Ute). She is the daughter of Michael and Carletta Lee, raised alongside one older brother and two older sisters, and is a proud aunt to one niece and one nephew. She carries the legacy of her grandparents, Lou Antone and Betty Lee, and the late Harold Begay and Ester Begay, whose influence continues to guide her path.

Currently a student at Kirtland Middle School in Kirtland, New Mexico, Leilani embodies a balance of discipline, athleticism, and dedication. She actively participates in volleyball and softball, but it is within the rodeo arena where her spirit truly comes alive. Having spent the last two years immersed in rodeo and entering her third season, she has developed not only skill, but a deep respect for the traditions and lifestyle it represents. She competes in barrel racing and pole bending, events that demand precision, speed, and a strong partnership with her horse, qualities she continues to refine with every ride. Her love for horses and the rodeo way of life fuels her ambition and shapes her identity.

Beyond competition, Leilani is deeply committed to giving back. Her involvement in community service, ranging from food drives and church events to supporting aquatic programs alongside her sister, reflects a genuine passion for helping others. She believes her greatest strength lies in her willingness to serve, uplift, and connect with her community.

Looking ahead, Leilani aspires to pursue a career in law enforcement, with the goal of becoming a police officer. This ambition speaks to her sense of responsibility, courage, and desire to protect and advocate for others qualities that align seamlessly with her role as Miss IJRA Queen.

In her heartfelt gratitude, Leilani recognizes the many individuals who contributed to her journey. She extends appreciation to Miss IJRA 2025 for her mentorship, the directors and organizers for their dedication, and the judges for entrusting her with this honor. She also acknowledges the queens who came before her, whose legacy has shaped the organization into what it is today.

As she begins her reign, Leilani carries both humility and determination. She honors those who paved the way while embracing the opportunity to build her own legacy—one defined by cultural pride, leadership, and service.

T’áá íiyisíí ahéhee’—thank you very much.
